Twilight in Anaradhapura
Twilight in Anuradhapura.
No other place on this earth
I would rather be,
Than right here and now
Close to the sacred Bodhi Tree.
The breeze cooling,
Ancient and soothing,
Whispering secrets
Of days long ago.
But hush, when very still
In the tranquillity of the approaching night,
One can still hear the words
Uttered by the Elders,
As they sat together
In perfect peace and harmony.
Their radiance lingering on beyond time.
Profound happiness arises within my heart,
That we too are destined
To follow this ancient Path
Svakkhato Bhagavato Dhammo!
The deep darkblue sky, just now
A spectacle of colours left by the sinking sun,
Slowly erases the last few pastel streaks
To make room for countless bright stars
And the full moon rising.
Bird’s evening song growing weaker,
A distance away, monkeys like fanthomy shadows huddle together,
And I return to Pilgrim’s Rest with stronger determination.

Stillness
Stillness
the throb in the vein of life
inherent in being
equivalent to Love
grandest and most pristine of all languages
your silent flow only interrupted by words
rupturing the Whole
into innumerable fragments of concepts
giving birth to ignorance
and rise to yearning quests of splintered hearts
Stillness
sweetest of songs
my umbilical cord
to That which Is

‘Tis all a Checkerboard of Nights and Days
Where Destiny with Men for Pieces plays
Hither and thither moves, and mates, and stays,
And one by one back in the Closet lays.”
Binnen en buiten, boven, rondom en beneden
't is slechts een magisch schimmemspel
gespeeld in een kijkdoos waarvan de kaars het zonlicht is,
waaromheen wij als schaduwen
verschijnen en verdwijnen
The Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám,
Persian writer & astronomer (c.1050-Stilzittend
niets doend
komt de lente
en groeit het gras vanzelf
Matsuo Basho (1644-1694)
De wilde ganzen hebben niet de bedoeling zich te spiegelen;
het water heeft niet de bedoeling hun beeltenis te reflecteren.
Chuang Tse (370 ad)
It's easy enough to be pleasent
When life goes by as a song
But the man worthwhile
Is the man who can smile
When everything goes dead wrong
Row, row, row your boat
Gently down the stream
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily
Life is but a dream
